Transformative Power
of Recovery
Changes Lives

Empowering recovery through mission-driven care and core values

Our Mission

To empower individuals facing significant challenges — including addiction, mental/behavioral issues, and homelessness — by creating an environment of whole-person and whole-family healing and compassion through integrated care and holistic support for lasting recovery.

Our Promise

At House of Acts, we promise to guide you step by step on your recovery journey. Each step is a blessing, and together, we’ll help you reclaim your life — one step at a time.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is clear — a calling and commitment to transform lives, uplift families, and build stronger, healthier communities.

Established in 1987 by Hattie Miles, House of Acts is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Vallejo, California. We proudly serve communities throughout Solano County, a key region within the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. Rooted in compassion, we are a community- and faith-based residential social model program committed to helping individuals achieve recovery and prevent relapse from alcohol and drug use disorders.

As a dual-diagnosis program, we specialize in providing integrated, evidence-based services for both substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. Our transitional housing program offers men, women, and transitional youth a safe, structured, and supportive environment to rebuild their lives, establish stability, and experience lasting transformation.

Licensed and certified by the California Department of Health Care Services, House of Acts operates with a mission driven by five key objectives that define our purpose:

  1. Promoting Health and Wellness:  Providing evidence-based tools and resources to empower individuals to overcome substance abuse and lead healthier lives.

  2. Developing Prevention and Treatment Programs:  Addressing the needs of vulnerable populations through continued innovation in substance abuse prevention and recovery services.

  3. Enhancing Education and Skills:  Supporting individuals in rebuilding their education, job readiness, and basic life skills to create sustainable change.

  4. Strengthening Families:  Offering parenting education and family relationship programs to promote healing and overall behavioral transformation.

  5. Reducing Recidivism:  Providing alternatives to incarceration for non-violent substance abusers, with a focus on rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Our Commitment to Action

Our commitment is rooted in the belief that the transformative power of recovery changes lives, strengthens families, and creates lasting change. Our work is guided by principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and action (IDEA), ensuring that everyone — regardless of their background — has access to the care and resources they need for a brighter future.

We actively integrate recovery from mental and substance use disorders into all aspects of our care — empowering individuals to rebuild their lives through comprehensive, evidence-based services. Our commitment to action includes:

  1. Investing in Health and Recovery:  Removing barriers to recovery by ensuring access to care for individuals from all walks of life, with services tailored to meet diverse needs.

  2. Promoting Whole-Person Healing:  Addressing the biological, psychological, and social aspects of substance use and mental health disorders to support total well-being.

  3. Providing Comprehensive Support:  Offering counseling, 12-step activities, drug education, relapse prevention, and wellness education.

  4. Championing Workforce Empowerment:  Equipping individuals with the life skills, education, training, and job readiness support necessary for economic independence and sustained recovery.

  5. Strengthening Families:  Offering parenting education and family relationship programs as vital tools for recovery.

  6. Reducing Recidivism:  Providing compassionate, evidence-based alternatives to incarceration for non-violent substance abusers while empowering individuals with behavioral changes.

  7. Advancing Awareness:  Educating communities about the devastating effects of addiction on individuals, families, and society, while advocating for prevention and early intervention.

At House of Acts, we don’t just talk about a supportive, inclusive community — we take action to make it happen.

"I believe there are many pathways to recovery. Faith has been my pathway to recovery. You have to have will. You have to want to change things. Recovery is possible.
